The China Factor

 

 

The biggest mass migration in human history is now underway, and it’s having a huge effect on global carbon emissions. The weirdest part? The entire phenomenon is happening within the borders of a single country, China. For this piece in Beijing, a city that’s home to more than 20-million people, I tagged along with one woman during her morning commute. Her daily adventure is a great example of the challenges Chinese face as they try to cope with an exploding urban population, one that’s becoming more and more “American” seemingly by the day.
